Definition

Claude is a family of AI models built by Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI researchers with a focus on AI safety. Claude is known for several strengths: an industry-leading 200K token context window (able to process roughly 500 pages of text at once), strong performance on nuanced reasoning tasks, careful handling of sensitive topics, and a tendency to be more honest about uncertainty.

Claude comes in multiple versions — Claude 3 Opus (most capable), Claude 3 Sonnet (balanced), and Claude 3 Haiku (fastest and cheapest). Claude is available through Anthropic's web interface, API, and is integrated into many third-party tools.

Examples

1

Using Claude to analyze a long legal document in a single conversation — its 200K token window can handle the entire document at once

2

Asking Claude to review a complex codebase and provide detailed feedback on architecture and potential issues
